- Story Text: Academy Award-nominated actress Carey Mulligan walked the red carpet for the Los Angeles premiere of her film "The Greatest" Thursday (March 25) night.
Her co-stars Pierce Brosnan and Johnny Simmons joined her in talking to the media before the film screening.
The movie follows how a grief-stricken family deals with the sudden death of their teenage son and grapples with the news that a girl he loved is pregnant.
Carey portrays the young mother-to-be. Brosnan plays the father of her high school crush. And, Susan Sarandon plays his mother.
The London-born Mulligan said she was inspired by the commitment Brosnan and Sarandon displayed towards the project.
"Amazing," smiled the 24-year-old actress. "You know, they both really kind of embraced the whole family of the film really. And Susan, you know, she lived in New York, and she had us round to her house for dinners. And her sons were involved with the film. And so, she really kind of mothered us. And Pierce was just brilliant. I mean, he was the producer as well. And had a real connection to the story. And put himself into it a hundred percent. So, I just kind of-- we all really followed by example, really. Me and Johnny and Aaron. They were great."
Mulligan, who earlier this year got an Oscar lead actress nod for her role in "An Education," shared how her professional life has changed since then.
"Yeah. I mean I think before, before all of that, it was just a case of not being enough of a name to get in a room to meet people. And that sort of changed, so. Yeah, it's given me access to better parts. So, and then that's why, you know, it's all been so great. And also that people saw 'An Education' and people will hopefully see this film. That's the point of all that red carpet pizzazz, really, is to just draw attention to the films that you're proud of."
This year Mulligan also earned a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Academy) for best leading actress for her performance in "An Education".
Simmons said he is pleased with Mulligan's success.
"It's kind of cool to watch the evolution of her acting career," said the 23-year-old actor. "She started off-- she'd done 'Pride & Prejudice,' and she went on to do 'The Seagull' after 'The Greatest'. And to see her be nominated for an Oscar is awesome."
Meanwhile, Brosnan expressed high hopes for Mulligan's future as an actress.
"You want the best," said the 56-year-old star. "You want the best for this young woman. She's a beautiful young lady. And she has the whole, open road ahead of her. And when you work with talent like that, and it's so potent, it's just a delight to see. So, you cannot but wish the best."
Brosnan also served as a producer on the "The Greatest".
Brosnan is also currently featured in the new Roman Polanski film "The Ghost Writer". The Irish actor offered a brief but supportive comment about the exiled director.
"Always with Roman is the controversy of life. You know, Roman Polanski. Stanley Kubrick. Stanley's gone. And there's just this cool cat left standing, so. Beautiful film. Amazing to work with him. Yep."
