- Story Text: Mr. Bean impersonator Rowan Atkinson arrived in style on Sunday (March 25) for the UK premiere of his latest film "Mr. Bean's Holiday". The actor drove nothing other than his beloved yellow mini van onto the red carpet to the delight of hundreds of cheering fans.
In true Mr. Bean fashion he awkwardly posed for photographers before he went to meet some of his fans and sign autographs.
Mr. Bean then disappeared and returned as Rowan Atkinson to face reporters. Atkinson said the premiere had been going all right:
"Fine so far, I've only just arrived. Mr. Bean arrived earlier and he always gets very excited on occasions like this. Me less excited you'll be glad to know but he always has a very good time", adding why he wanted to do this film :
"It felt like a logical thing to do. I always felt that there was some unfinished business after the first film which was a good movie for what it was and it was certainly successful but I always felt that there was basically a film in which Mr. Bean spoke less so that's kind of what we tried to do with this story, more with pictures than with words and it seems to have worked well, I think it worked well."
"Mr. Bean's Holiday" comes ten years after the hugely successful "Mr. Bean - The Ultimate Disaster Movie". In this episode, Mr. Bean heads to the South of France for a holiday in the sun. It may sound simple, but his trip from the UK to France soon transcends into mayhem and culminates in an unscheduled appearance at the Cannes Film Festival where he manages to upstage Willem Dafoe's character who plays a successful film director:
"Yeah that's ok I knew that was in the cards, it's his show", said Dafoe, adding "I've always been interested in Rowan , I remember seeing him in 'Black Adder', maybe around Mid-80s and I thought he was just fantastic , I didn't know Mr.Bean so much , I like the idea of the story and I like the character a lot."
Asked whether he was planning to go to this year's Cannes Film Festival, Dafoe said: "This year? Depends I mean I've got a couple of films that come out soon so I like that festival a lot so if there's a screening, I'll go."
"Mr. Bean's Holiday" opens in the UK on March 30th and it may well be the last time audiences get to take part in one of his entertaining episodes.
"I think it's highly unlikely that there'll be another Mr. Bean film or TV show but you must never say never so you never know what's gonna happen but I think it's unlikely", said Atkinson. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
