- Story Text: The cast of 'Beyond a Reasonable Doubt' hit the red carpet on Wednesday (September 9), at the film's premiere in New York City.
In the thriller, Michael Douglas plays high profile lawyer, Mark Hunter, who has an impeccable record for putting criminals behind bars and who has his sights on becoming governor in the upcoming election.
But when ambitious rookie journalist C.J. Nicholas, played by Jesse Metcalfe, begins investigating Hunter for tampering with evidence to secure his convictions, the district attorney's perfect record is up for scrutiny.
"It took a long time for my wife to get over the fact of me playing bad guys all the time, but I like it, it's fun. You get to do all those things people wish they could do," Douglas said at the premier.
While the actor loves playing the bad guy, Douglas admited he wouldn't mind a change.
"Every movie of my career I make except for one are contemporary, current times. I've never done a sci-fi picture really, I've never done a period movie so maybe that'd be nice," he said.
For actor Jesse Metcalfe, the opportunity to play alongside Douglas was a dream come true. Metcalfe, who is well known for his recent role as gardener John Rowland in the hit television series 'Desperate Housewives', said the opportunity to feature in the film was a big step.
"You know it was a huge step up. The last major feature, the studio movie I did, 'John Tucker Must Die' was the last thing people remember me by and although I've done half a dozen films since then, you know and one after 'Beyond a Reasonable Doubt'. They didn't really, not many eyeballs saw those films, you know, so it was an opportunity to show people what I can do. I feel just really lucky to have been given the opportunity," Metcalfe said.
The 30-year-old arrived at the red carpet premiere with a stunning brunette -- his mother, Nancy Demaio.
"This is probably one of the biggest days of my life and no-one's been there more or supported me more than my mother throughout my career. The hard times, and the great times, so it just seemed appropriate," he said.
Peter Hyams, who directed the 1956 remake, is full or praise for the up-and-coming star.
"Jesse was an amazing surprise in this movie and perfect for this movie because Jesse is this really, really sweet and seductive, absolutely gorgeous young guy with beautiful brown eyes and you fall for him," Hyams said.
