- Story Text: The Spanish city of Seville woke up on Wednesday (June 15) to screaming fans who had bumped into hollywood starts Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz as the world premiere of their last film "Knight and Day" took off with a thrilling car speed performance early in the morning.
Cruise and Diaz raced for hours through the central streets of the Andalusian city starring a car skid action scene in front of one of the most famous buildings in Spain, La Giralda, an almost 100 meter high tower which was part of a mosque in the 12th century.
Key sequences of the epic action-comedy were filmed in the Spanish cities of Seville and Cadiz.
As the "Mission: Impossible" trilogy star speeded on a Ducati motorbike, Diaz made clear she had complete control of the break when she confidently drove around laughing in a grey BMW.
Later, when the stars arrived to the Lope de Vega Theatre where the film was to be shown for the first time, fans -- especially young girls -- who had been waiting for hours, screamed, jumped and waved crying for an autograph or a photograph. Cruise and Diaz kindly approached the crowd and took their time talking, shaking hands and kissing them.
Director James Mangold, famous for "Walk the Line" and "3:10 to Yuma", described the film as an adventurous action comedy.
"We love the movie. It´s a real ride, you know, It's a lot of shooting, it´s a lot of adventure, a lot of romance. and it all runs in 45 minutes," he said, standing next to his wife, producer Cathy Conrad.
Mangold brought two of Hollywood's big stars together again, as Diaz and Cruise starred "Vanilla Sky" in 2001, and they seemed to agree Seville was the ideal place to celebrate the premiere as a big part of it had been filmed there.
Cameron Diaz, dressed with an elegant black dress, said it had been great to be back to the south of Spain.
"We did so much of the film and a huge part of the film that was really ambitious. To be able to come and thank all the people was here to accomplish that" ," the 37 year old actress said smiling.
"The finest memories are people, the beauty of the city, great food...great food, great people and great shooting experience. I loved working with the crews here. I know Jim (Mangold), Cameron (Diaz), all are families. It´s just, times like this are part of the adventure," the three time Academy Award nominee, who was travelling with his wife, Katie Holmes, added.
Their new film, James Mangold´s "Knight and Day", tells the story of June (Diaz), a woman who learns a secret she was never meant to know when she becomes the reluctant partner to Roy (Cruise), a covert operative on a mission he was never meant to complete.
As their globetrotting adventure erupts into a maze of double-crosses, close escapes and false identities, they come to realize that all they can count on is each other. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
