I know myself, I keep getting asked the question 'when was the last time you wrote a letter,' and really, I don't remember, so I feel a bit discouraged by it. I need to get back to writing random letters to people." (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTRESS AMANDA SEYFRIED, SAYING: "She's completely present in the moment, every second, she, I don't know what, she just listens with her entire being and she's had, obviously, a lot of experience, but I don't think it comes with experience, I think it comes with what kind of human being you are and the more connected you are to the moment you're having, and the more real it is, and so, it felt very natural to be in scenes with her, and our dynamic was very much was that of the characters, or of us in real life, Amanda and Vanessa." - Story Text: Actress Amanda Seyfried walked the red carpet Tuesday (May 11) for the premiere for her latest film, dreamy romance "Letters to Juliet," which also stars legendary actress Vanessa Redgrave as a woman trying to find a lost love. Seyfried, best known for her roles in the films "Mean Girls" and "Mamma Mia," as well as cable TV show "Big Love," was joined by co-star Chris Egan for the premiere at Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Redgrave and co-star Gael Garcia Bernal did not attend.
In "Letters to Juliet," Redgrave plays Claire, an Englishwoman who, vacationing in Italy 50 years ago, was among the many girls who write letters to Shakespeare's doomed heroine and place them on a wall in Verona. Her letter goes missing until aspiring writer Sophie (Seyfried) decides to answer it in Juliet's voice, urging the now-aged woman to seek out the boy she loved and lost during her Italian summer.
Redgrave stars in the role opposite her husband, Italian actor Franco Nero, with whom she has had an on-off relationship for over four decades, a fact which Amanda Seyfried finds inspiring.
"It's funny, I was sitting next to Vanessa last weekend, and she was sitting across from Franco, and they've been on and off for 44 years, not a lot of people know that, so, sitting across from her and thinking back at my life, not that I've lived a long one so far, but if ever I've made a mistake with somebody in my love life, there's always a chance for it to reemerge, and I think that's a good thing to know when you're dealing with anything," says Seyfried, on the possibility of reconnecting with a lost love.
For Seyfried, working with the venerable actress from one of Britain's most famous acting families was a learning experience in love and in acting.
"She's completely present in the moment, every second, she, I don't know what, she just listens with her entire being and she's had, obviously, a lot of experience, but I don't think it comes with experience, I think it comes with what kind of human being you are and the more connected you are to the moment you're having," says Seyfried of Vanessa Redgrave. "It felt very natural to be in scenes with her."
Australian actor Chris Egan said that although the film might be viewed as a "chick flick," the film will find a broad audience, in part because the idea of having a letter-writing relationship will always be romantic, especially in the age of instant messaging online and through mobile phone texting.
"I think there's something to be said that I think we've lost touch with a lot of, you know, you can have relationships online for six months without seeing each other, I don't know. I know myself, I keep getting asked the question 'when was the last time you wrote a letter,' and really, I don't remember," says Egan. "I need to get back to writing random letters to people."
