(SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTOR JOSH BROLIN ON HOW WORKING ON THE FILM IMPACTED HIM PERSONALLY, SAYING: "It was a hard role to play, only because it's a guy who's so unlikable, you know. He starts out so likable, and at the same time you see this extreme place, the extreme measures that he resorted to. And it's very sad to me. But, you know, at the same time Harvey Milk still billows 30 years later, you know. He's still effecting people. And you see the people across the street. If you had been in the-- or maybe you were at the premiere in San Francisco. It was amazingly effecting. It gave you goose pimples, very personal to them. So, I don't know. You know, in that way. And it also allows me and reminds me to speak out and it's okay, no matter what anybody says." "MILK" SUPPORTERS STANDING ACROSS THE STREET HOLDING CANDLES AND PAN TO RED CARPET. ACTOR JAMES FRANCO POSES FOR PHOTOS. CUTAWAY OF TELEVISION CAMERA. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTOR JAMES FRANCO ON HOW WORKING ON "MILK" CHANGED HIM, SAYING: "Well working with Gus Van Sant and Sean Penn you can't help but learn a thing or two, I would hope. It was an amazing experience. I couldn't ask for, you know, a better actor and a better director to work with. And, I mean frankly, you know, they've just been my idols since, you know, before I started acting, so. I don't know, they just showed, you know, they just showed me a lot of how dedicated they are to what they do. And, and I thought I was dedicated, but I hope to emulate their level of commitment." DIRECTOR GUS VAN SAN TALKS WITH REPORTERS. CUTAWAY OF TELEVISION CAMERA. ACTOR SEAN PENN TALKS TO REPORTERS. (SOUNDBITE) (English) DIRECTOR GUS VAN SANT ON WHETHER THE FILM WAS SHOT FROM AN ARTISTIC PERSPECTIVE OR A STRAIGHT HISTORICAL NARRATIVE, AND WHY SEAN PENN WAS THE BEST MAN FOR THE JOB, SAYING: "Pretty straight, though if you see it. It's a pretty conventional straight movie. But even a conventional picture has to be created. You know, has to like have-- there's some art involved. (Reporter: And why was Sean Penn the best man for the job?) I think he was, he was really great because he was a little unexpected, and he was a good speech-giver." ACTOR DENNIS HOPPER STANDING NEAR RED CARPET. ACTRESS MARISA TOMEI POSES FOR PHOTOS. SCREENWRITER/EXECUTIVE PRODUCER DUSTIN LANCE BLACK TALKS TO REPORTERS. ACTOR SEAN PENN AND WIFE ROBIN WRIGHT PENN WALK RED CARPET. ACTRESS GINA GERSHON POSES FOR PHOTOS. (SOUNDBITE) (English) SCREENWRITER AND EXECUTIVE PRODUCER DUSTIN LANCE BLACK ON HIS APPROACH TO WRITING THE SCREENPLAY, SAYING: "To me, I tackled it from my own personal perspective. When I heard about Harvey, I felt an instant connection to him as a father figure. And that's why I connected with Clive Jones, who saw him in the same way, but in real life, 30 years ago. And so, I just approach it that way. Yes. It's all political. It's all politics, but it's so intensely personal. I mean gay politics are always personal, because we're talking about love."
