- Story Text: The sweltering hot weather couldn't stop thousands of screaming fans from descending on the European premiere of 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest' at Leicester Square in London on Monday (July 3). Many looked as though they'd come straight out of the film, turning up in an array of pirate costumes and make-up despite the searing temperatures.
Although bottles of water were handed out to the crowds and some were given a welcome spray of water for relief, some star-spotters did succumb to the heat and excitement, having to be pulled over barriers and treated for heat exhaustion.
Even the stars seemed taken aback by the enthusiasm of the huge crowd.
"It's overwhelming you know," said Johnny Depp of the fan turnout. "These guys come out to sort of support us and I'm just very thankful. Means everything."
Depp is reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the movie, a sequel to the blockbuster hit 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl', which grossed 653 million U.S. dollars at the worldwide box office.
Also returning to the big screen as Will Turner is British heart-throb Orlando Bloom, who jumped at the chance to engage in more swashbuckling action.
"Yeah I love it, you know," he said. "I love jumping around, throwing myself of masts - you name it, I'm there."
Heating up the red carpet even more in a gold Gucci dress, Keira Knightley discussed her own perks in doing the film. "I can't complain can I?" she told Reuters. "Two beautiful boys and kissing both of them in one film, I'm a very lucky girl."
'Dead Man's Chest' opens for general release throughout Europe July 7th.
