I loved it. I think that... You know, when you're an actor, you tend to be inside the story of the story, so you kind of... You don't spend time with the entire crew and you don't have as much connection I think to the material, it's very different. And this, I happened to love this subject matter, I felt deeply for it, I got to work with people from all over the region and see them all come together to make... you know, to work as artists. And especially, the type of things they had to do together was... just such amazing actors. And what I got... I was able to witness, and felt honoured to be there and to shine the camera on them. I'm very happy to be in the back, sitting with the crew." - Story Text: Actress Angelina Jolie attended the premiere of her directorial debut "In the Land of Blood and Honey" in Zagreb, Croatia, on Friday (February 17).
The film deals with the 1992-1995 Bosnian War by depicting a love relationship between a Bosnian Muslim woman and a Bosnian Serb man, and was entirely shot by a cast of local actors from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia.
"It's harder to be a director but it is much more rewarding. I'm very happy to be in the back, sitting with the crew," Angelina Jolie told media, referring to the transition from acting to directing and her experience of working with local actors.
The film stars Bosnian actress Zana Marjanovic, Bosnian Serb actor Goran Kostic and Croatian Rade Serbedzija.
Some of the wartime rape victims praised the film as difficult, true and brave after it was shown during a one-week early screening in Sarajevo in December.
However, some Bosnian Serbs say that Jolie has failed to show balance in presenting all sides of the Bosnian atrocities.
Although the film was criticised by the Serbian media for depicting the role of Serb forces during the 1992-1995 war in a negative light, the actress said she was happy with the way her film was received in the region.
"Yes, yes, very. I was very moved in Sarajevo and I'm very moved tonight to see how many people have come out," Jolie said about the reception her film has received in the region since its Sarajevo premiere on Tuesday (February 14). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
