- Story Text: Despite a group of screaming fans wanting his autograph, Sam Worthington was very down-to-earth at the premiere of Wrath of the Titans in London, England on Thursday night (March 29).
The star of the fantasy thriller was accompanied to the screening at the BFI Imax by his girlfriend Crystal Humphries, and when asked how he felt having all eyes on him at his premiere, he replied jokingly: ''Don't say that, it's just a very weird date; I just said we're going to the movies doll, you wanna come?'' The Australian star is back playing Perseus in the 3D blockbuster, a demi-god who battles to help his father Zeus. It's two years since the first film, Clash of the Titans, directed by Louis Leterrier, was released. This time, it's filmmaker Jonathan Liebesman in the director's chair and he explained what fans can expect: ''Well the 3D is great, the action is bigger, we've got the most photorealistic monsters I have ever seen, it's pretty cool.'' Like Clash of the Titans, Wrath of the Titans is based on characters and settings from Greek mythology, but not specific stories. Several members of the A list cast from the first film, including Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes, return, while Rosamund Pike joins the team, showing off her action skills, playing warrior Queen Andromeda. Set a decade after the first film, Perseus is attempting to live a quiet life having defeated the monstrous Kraken. But he soon becomes embroiled in a struggle for supremacy between the gods and the Titans.
Worthington's character Perseus rides flying horse Pegasus into battle, in real life though Worthington confessed he doesn't like working with horses: ''I am not scared of horses - I don't like them, I don't think equine like me, I am scared of mice, but, horses and me don't get on, they try to bite my head like a sugar cube, especially Pegasus.'' Liam Neeson, who was also on the red carpet, is back playing Zeus, who teams up with his son and eventually his brother Hades played by Ralph Fiennes. He said of the film: ''It's a terrific film, there are thrills and spills, you know these Greek Gods were, albeit they were Gods, but they were a dysfunctional family.'' The response to the movie from critics has so far been mixed, but it seems director Jonathan Liebesman is not concerned: ''I think critics should pay to see movies, so that, you know it's interesting me and Sam talk about it a lot and we just think it's for the man who pays his own money, it's how he feels about it, that's important.'' The first film was panned by critics, but reportedly took almost 500 million dollars at the box office.
