- Story Text: Marvel comic book superhero group, "The Avengers" just got done saving the world...again - in a new film set to hit theatre screens May 4.
And actors Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo and Chris Hemsworth ditched their costumes to premiere the action flick on the final night of New York's Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday (April 28).
Ruffalo who plays the Hulk said it was interesting joining forces with his castmates who play Iron Man (Downey), Thor (Hemsworth) and Captain America (Chris Evans).
"When we all showed up, you know, the first day and we're all just kind of standing around looking at each other," Ruffalo told Reuters.
"And Robert sort of brings us all together and we were all very nervous and Robert cracked a joke about Chris Hemsworth's costume, which ended up being in the movie, and that kind of broke the ice, but we hung out together all the time. We just got back from a European press tour, which was amazingly good time. It was a great group of people."
In Hollywood, Ruffalo might be able to transform into a green giant with the ability to smash just about anything, but in real life, he wishes he could transform into anything.
"If I wanted to be a river, I could be a river or a hawk, or a mountain, or a molecule of water," he said.
Downey Jr. who reprises his role as Iron Man explains why his superhero is a hit with fans.
"I think the interesting thing about Iron Man for adults is they kind of get the wit and sensibilities that Jon Favreau brought to the original shot at the title and then it's also technologically possible," he said.
But when he's not saving the world, Downey's at home with his newborn son.
"He's just about 12-weeks-old, so there's not a lot of playing. You look at him and hope he smiles. And he does," Downey said.
The movie combines comedy and drama with a mish mash of superhero personalities, but actor Tom Hiddleston who plays the film's villain didn't feel alienated by being the bad guy on set.
"What was lovely was that the code name for the script, because all these scripts are kept so secretive, was 'group hug'. And I wasn't excluded from the real group hug off-set, so we just had the best time," Hiddleston said.
"We spent most time, most of the shoot in Albuquerque and New Mexico and it was like being part of a big superhero summer camp."
Moviegoers might appreciate the fact that the film isn't just all action and no romance. Supporting actor Clark Gregg and his wife, Dirty Dancing actress Jennifer Grey said its other stars Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow and Cobie Smulders bring plenty of sizzle to the big screen. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
