- Story Text: Manny Pacquiao joins the cast of the Filipino film, "The Road" for the North American premiere in Los Angeles Wednesday (May 9) night.
"The Road" tells the story of a twelve-year-old cold case that is reopened when three teenagers vanish while traversing an infamous and abandoned road. As investigators try to find leads to the whereabouts of the missing teens, they also unearth the road's gruesome past that spans two decades - a history of abduction, crimes and murders.
Manny Pacquiao was on hand to attend the premiere in support of his "Manny Many Prizes" co-host Rhian Ramos.
"It's a good experience to be here. I'm supporting my friend Rhian and I love it," said Pacquiao.
Yam Laranas, director of the film said it meant a lot to the have such a big star as Manny Pacquiao in attendance for the premiere.
"Manny is a great supporter of anything Filipino, anything Filipino that we bring out in here in the U.S. or abroad," said Laranas. "It's amazing to have him here. It's just crazy, crazy to have him here. We've very happy because to get the attention of everyone and at the same time bring that attention to 'The Road' to the film."
The North American premiere of "The Road" is a big step for the film industry in the Philippines since it is the first film in history to get a commercial release in the United States. Filipino film and television star Rhian Ramos said she felt Wednesday night's premiere was historic.
"The thing about all of the premieres that I go to," said Ramos. "I remember them and I cherish them of course in my heart, and this, though, feels like something that's going down in history as a Filipino and for all of the other Filipinos because we have never had a movie before that made it to an American audience and was considered mainstream and a commercial movie so this is a big deal for us. So hopefully it paves the way and opens doors for the Filipino entertainers back home."
While the first commercial release of a Filipino was the discussion for the actors, Manny Pacquiao also discussed the announcement that the fight between Amir Khan and Lamont Peterson was canceled due to Peterson testing positive for steriods.
Pacquiao said, "I feel bad because the fight is canceled because the steroid of Peterson but I think Amir Khan needs to continue his training and get in shape."
Pacquiao also reacted to Floyd Mayweather's recent statement that he doesn't believe Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum wants Manny to fight him.
"I always want to fight him (Mayweather) and whatever he wants to do I agree as long as 50-50 for pay per view," said Pacquiao.
