- Story Text: Led by stars Kirsten Dunst and Isla Fisher, the cast of the comedy "Bachelorette" arrived on the red carpet Thursday night (August 23) for the film's Los Angeles premiere.
Dunst, best known for her role as the girlfriend of Spider-Man and the heavy drama, 'Melancholia,' told Reuters that she was happy getting a chance to take on a role that her fans might not at first be used to seeing her in.
"For me, I was ready for a comedy especially after something like 'Meloncholia,' said Dust.
"I always want to be in different kinds of films, instead of being shoeboxed into one way of people seeing me. For me, this movie was the greatest, refreshing thing to do after something like a heavy movie."
Based on her critically acclaimed play "Bachelorette," Leslye Headland writes and directs this comedy about women on the verge of hilarious breakdowns, spectacular breakthroughs, and even closer friendships.
On the night before an old friend's wedding, three bridesmaids go searching for a little fun: Regan (Dunst) an overachieving, ber-Maid of Honor who's secretly smarting over the fact that she's not the first to marry; Gena, a whip smart sarcastic who's actually a closet romantic; and Katie (Fisher), a ditzy beauty who loves the good life. Though the bride to be insists on keeping the bachelorette party tame, the women proceed with an after-hours celebration of their own.
Fisher said it was the "wild" plot line that literally scared her into taking the role.
"Oh, yeah. I'm a mother of two, I've never done drugs and I'm a bit of a computer nerd," said Fisher, who's married to "Borat" star Sacha Baron Cohen. "I don't really drink and this was such a different character for me. She is such an overconfident person, who is so self-entitled and stuck in her high school era. There was nothing about her that did not terrify me and that is sometimes the best parts to take to challenge yourself."
The film also stars Lizzy Caplan, James Marsden and Adam Scott.
