- Story Text: 'Gambit' cast including Oscar winner Colin Firth and Golden Globe nominee Cameron Diaz hit the red carpet in London.
Actors Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz team-up in comedy caper 'Gambit' and the duo walked the red carpet together too on Wednesday night (November 7) for the film's London premiere.
40-year-old Diaz braved the cold, posing for photographers without her winter coat, before wrapping up to speak to the press.
The actress plays PJ a Texas rodeo queen who ends up helping Colin Firth's art curator character Harry Deane to con his boss into buying a fake Monet painting.
Speaking to Reuters Television Firth, who is no stranger to light comedies, explained the difficulties of doing farce: "I mean if you don't get it right, if you miss by a millimetre you miss completely, so you are taking a lot on, it would be terrifying in the theatre but of course on a film set you've only got your guess work to play off because you're not going to be laughing at your jokes for 12 hours a day, you've just got to hope that it's coming together."
The man behind 'One Fine Day' and 'The Last Station' - Michael Hoffman directed 'Gambit', a remake of the 1966 film of the same name.
This version was scripted by Joel and Ethan Coen, famous for hit films such as 'No Country For Old Men and 'True Grit'. Hoffman revealed having a Coen Brothers script to work from drew him to the project: "It was a pull, but it was also a pressure because I am not the Coen Brothers and I know that and rarely are the scripts not, do they not direct them - so it was a big honour, but it was also a huge challenge."
As well as Firth and Diaz, the impressive cast list also includes Alan Rickman. The English actor plays Firth's difficult boss Lionel Shahbandar - a role Rickman had to strip off for: "You just have to do it don't you, I mean poor actresses have to do it all the time without complaining, so it was a surprise to be asked, put it that way!" He told Reuters Television.
Meanwhile Firth also had to shed some clothes: "I did drop my trousers ala Brian Rix farce but I was fairly well dressed other than the trousers. I think a little more was asked of poor Alan but I think he was a very, very fine specimen, and of course we'd all pay good money to see this woman." (Gestures to Diaz).
