- Story Text: Sixty-six-year-old Sylvester Stallone proved on Wednesday (November 14) he still packs a punch, pulling a huge crowd of fans to the Rome Film Festival premiere of "Bullet to the Head", his new action movie with director Walter Hill.
The action hero who earlier in the day entertained journalists with anecdotes about his life and four decade-long career, was surrounded by heavy security as he greeted fans before speeding through the red carpet.
In the movie, Stallone plays New Orleans based hitman Jimmy Bobo, who joins forces with a Washington DC detective to bring down a common enemy, in the process exposing corruption and wrong-doing.
The movie got a warm reception at a press screening earlier in the day and Hill had further reason to celebrate as he attended the film's world premiere.
Ahead of the screening the Rome Film Festival presented Hill with its new "Maverick Director Award". The award is given to a master film-maker who has broken new ground in cinema and consistently stands out from the crowd, the festival said in a statement.
"I'm very pleased to be here and I'm glad the film seems to be getting a good reception and I'm honoured. You know, if you choose to be an action director, which I chose many years ago, action directors don't win a lot of awards so this is a nice experience for me," Hill told Reuters Television on the red carpet.
Hill, who hasn't directed a movie since "Undisputed" ten years ago, said the humour of the buddy movie had been a major attraction for him, as well as the opportunity to work with Stallone for the first time.
"Well I think the humour and the irony we put on it kind of make it a little more graceful, I hope so. I just thought it was the kind of film I could do a good job on. And I also wanted to work with Sly, he and I had talked about working together for years and never got around to it and he is a lot of fun," he said.
"Bullet to the Head", which also stars Sung Kang, Jason Momoa and Christian Slater, is screening Out of Competition at the Rome Film Festival.
It will be released in the United States and United Kingdom on February 1. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
