- Story Text: Jennifer Lopez dazed in white as she hit the red carpet for her new film "Parker" in New York on Wednesday (January 23).
For Lopez the premiere was a home coming.
"I can't remember the last time, probably somebody will be like, 'it was last year Jennifer.' But you know, I forget, I am always so on the move sometimes, I forgot what like, yesterday. But it's always great to come back to New York and be in your hometown and feel that love. And you know, every time I go out of the hotel the fans are there. It's just something about it, you know, it's home," she told Reuters.
The a-lister stars alongside Jason Statham in the crime thriller based on the best-selling novels by Donald E. Westlake.
In the movie Statham plays Parker, a robin-like thief looking to settle a score with his crew after they steal his money and leave him for dead. His character encounters Lopez, a determined real estate agent down on her luck, in Florida. Action ensues as the duo formulates a plan to steal back the money without leaving a trace.
English native Statham performs most of the stunts in the movie, which he said is just a part of the job.
"It's like you know, we're going to work so we have to know what we're doing. We train for it and we prepare for it. And it's exciting, I enjoy what I do and I enjoy the challenge," he said.
When asked if he suffered any on-set injuries he said he doesn't keep track of the bruises.
"They just move around the body. One day it's a leg, one day it's a shoulder and the next it's my elbow. You just have to change the ice," he said with a smile.
In the film, the Puerto Rican born star plays the Cuban daughter of Italian born actress Patti LuPone. While the pairing seems unlikely on paper, LuPone said it's not that improbable.
"It's not that farfetched. I'm Italian, she's Puerto Rican. I'm old enough to be her mother. I know Taylor Hackford (director) and when they offered me the part I wanted to work with Taylor because I've known him for so many years," she said.
Lopez, a mother of 4-year-old twins, has successfully balanced a music and movie career since 1997. Most recently the 43-year-old served as a judge on the U.S. talent TV show "American Idol," which she said she has yet to see since her departure: "I just haven't, it came on last week and I just didn't get to see it, but I look forward to seeing it."
