- Story Text: Teen heartthrob Taylor Lautner is stepping out of the "Twilight" franchise and into his own leading man role in the action-thriller "Abduction." The star was welcomed by screams of adoring fans as he attended the red carpet premiere for the film at Hollywood's famous Grauman's Chinese Theater on Thursday (September 15).
The young star delighted his fans by signing autographs and posing for pictures with them. Lautner was joined on the red carpet by his co-stars, including Signourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs and newcomer Lily Collins, who plays his love interest in the thriller. Lautner could not be more delighted with his new role.
"It was amazing to film. I mean I was surrounded by an incredible cast, you know, tons of action, romance, it was, it was overall, like a dream role for me," said Lautner.
The film sees Lautner play a young man who begins a search for his true identity, only to be targeted by trained killers and forced to go on the run. Despite being known for his physical prowess, Lautner found the film's stunts to be challenging at times.
"I mean, there was a few stunts that required a lot of preparation, a lot of training, but the emotional side for me was just as, if not more important, than, you know, just being able to tell this character's journey," added the actor.
For actress Sigourney Weaver, a veteran of the film industry, she found herself drawn to the thrilling elements in the plot of "Abduction."
"It's a very good, old fashion movie and a wonderful ensemble and John Singleton's a wonderful director so I think the audience will really like it. I think it's a great date movie actually," said Weaver.
"Harry Potter" actor Jason Isaacs also found the plot to be too enticing to ignore and felt that Singleton had the skills to grasp the audience's attention.
"What is hard to do, I think, is grab an audience and drag them on a journey where they don't have time to stop and be distracted, and I think John Singleton's got a real sense of pace and a real sense of story-telling," said Isaacs.
Isaacs found himself very impressed by Lautner's talent and professionalism and understood the director's choice to cast Lautner as his leading man..
"In Taylor, he's got a very willing and incredibly fit athletic young superhero who's ready to put himself through the paces, you know, he's as far from those ageing botox ex-superstars as you can get, he's, he's just right for it," said Isaacs,
"Abduction" also stars Alfred Molina, Maria Bello and Michael Nyqvist, and opens in U.S. theaters on September 23. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
