- Story Text: Riding on the back of box office glory in North America, the cast and crew of 'The Hangover', hit London town for the European premier.
Arriving in London's Leicester Square for the European premiere of 'The Hangover', Director Todd Philips and cast members Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galianakis, Justin Bartha and Heather Graham have everything to smile about.
Breathing new life into the bachelor party genre, 'The Hangover' has struck accord with North American movie goers and the film has taking US$44.9m in its opening week at the box office.
It tells the story of a bachelor party gone wrong. Two days before his wedding, Doug (JUSTIN BARTHA) drives to Las Vegas with best buddies Phil and Stu (BRADLEY COOPER and ED HELMS) and future brother-in-law Alan (ZACH GALIFIANAKIS) for a blow-out bachelor party. But when they wake up the next morning with pounding headaches, they can't remember a thing. Their luxury hotel suite is beyond trashed and the groom is nowhere to be found. With no clue about what happened and little time to spare, the trio must attempt to retrace their bad decisions from the night before in order to figure out where things went wrong in the hopes of finding Doug and getting him back to L.A. in time for his wedding.
"Well we will see how it plays over here, Todd Phillips of "Old School" fame told Reuters from the golden carpet. "I hope the hangover plays as well in the UK as it has in America.
Phillips, who also directed the wildly successful Will Ferrell 2003 comedy "Old School," believes his film's universal concept of getting drunk and waking up not remembering anything would be a sure fire hit with movie goers.
Actor Bradley Cooper of 'Yes Man', 'Failure to Launch' and the 'Wedding Crashers' points out that a strong opening week is not the same as long term box office success.
"'Wedding Crashers' was famous for the legs it had. It opened at US$32m and then made 209 million at the end, so we will see; we will take one day at a time."
Zach Galifianakis, best known for his off beat stand-up comedy reflects on how tolerant audiences in the US have been with the films subject matter:
"It makes me worried for society that audiences are willing to accept and enjoy such horrible behaviour from people, and loving it, it is very strange. There has not been any backlash, no stupid group in the United States saying weird things, it is nice."
With 'The Hangover' curently enjoying its moment in the sun, Warner Bros. have already moved to begin development on 'The Hangover 2' with all the original cast looking to come back for a second bite of the cherry.
"I would make 'Hangover 7', just like 'Police Academy'," said Justin Bartha, and it is speculated that Disney's boy wonder group, The Jonas Brothers could be making an appearance in the film, second time around.
