- Story Text: Premieres may have already been held in Moscow, Sydney, and Berlin, but "Star Trek Into Darkness" had its world premiere in London on Thursday (May 02).
The setting is fitting as the action kicks off in the movie with a terrorist attack in London against Star Fleet, and the man responsible is the enigmatic one-man killing machine John Harrison played by Benedict Cumberbatch.
Soon, the crew of the Starship Enterprise, including James T. Kirk (Chris Pine), Uhura (Zoe Saldana), and Bones (Keith Urban) are on his tail to make him pay for his actions. But things are not all that they seem and soon there are many moral dilemmas and life-changing decisions to be made.
At the other premieres, the cast have praised the film making and the experience, but haven't spoken about the downsides to being in Star Fleet. Both Chris Pine and Zoe Saldana agreed that there was one scene where the space-age outfits were too much.
"We have a 5 minute sequence where I wear a wetsuit which was the thing that I wasn't necessarily the thing I wasn't the most excited about wearing." Pine admitted.
"I soldiered through and had a compatriot in Karl Urban which was nice but it was fun, it was a good time."
Saldana added "We had to put tonnes of baby powder in it in order for us to put it on and that was exhausting and by the time you got to zip the clothes, you needed to go to the bathroom."
Early reviews of the film have been praising director J.J. Abrams' second movie in the rebooted franchise. However, it looks like he'll be unlikely to direct a third movie as he's contracted to begin work on the next "Star Wars" movie, but he may still want some involvement.
"No matter what if the third is in the offering, if they do a third, definitely we'd be involved as producers on the movie" he said.
"Depending on what the timing would be and everything but there would be no more fun thing to do than work with this group again. They're amazing."
Pine was also asked if he'd be tempted to make a return for a third movie.
"Tempted? I have to do it." he quipped.
"If they want to do a third, I'm obligated to do it but I would welcome the opportunity and I hope to do it and can't wait to see what this story, these characters and this franchise holds."
But would Pine also consider jumping ship to Star Wars? "No, of course, I'm not sucking up to him to get a role in Star Wars." he said.
"I think I'll deal with one Star and take it from there and leave a whole new group to tackle that one."
Benedict Cumberbatch, whose star has been rising in recent years since starring in the British TV show "Sherlock" before going on to get major roles in "War Horse" and "The Hobbit", was recently named the UK's 'Sexiest Man of The Year' by The Sun newspaper.
"It makes me giggle a lot." admitted Cumberbatch.
"Truly you can't take those things too seriously. It's very nice while it lasts. I've spent a long time not being the sexiest man on anyone's list. I don't think so. I think 'why didn't this happen to me when I was 17?' I think there's good reason. I think it's to do with stuff I'm doing as an actor rather than what I actually look like so I'm flattered on that part, I suppose."
