- Story Text: British-Irish boy band One Direction brought their 3D movie, "This Is Us" to the United States for its New York premiere on Monday (August 26).
Just one day after making headlines at the MTV VMA, the guys were flooded with questions regarding Taylor Swift allegedly cursing at the site of them, as the group presented an award. In addition, she also seemed to jab at ex-boyfriend Harry Styles as she picked up her trophy for her music video "I knew You Were Trouble."
On the red carpet, Styles was praised for being a gentleman about the situation, and simply responded: "That's all I do anytime."
As the quintet picked up their award for song of the summer, boos could be heard in the crowd.
Pop star Lady Gaga came to their rescue and offered a bit of support.
"She was great last night. She was a really nice girl. Because it was actually the first time we had ever met her properly, we've passed her at different things, but we never spoke to her before then. I thought that was really nice what she did. She came over and just gave us a pep talk," said Niall Horan.
"She's a massive icon so to have someone's support like that for us, you know, we just feel like we're just young lads getting lucky. So it was nice to have some support from such an incredible artist," added Liam Payne.
The five member band was formed on the UK television singing competition "The X Factor" in 2010 by TV personality and producer Simon Cowell. Over the course of three years Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan, have built a devoted fan base around the world of mainly teenage girls.
Payne said getting use to those fans have been the toughest adjustment.
"I think when you go outside and there's people screaming, running down the street after your car. That's a bit mental for us to adjust to as it were."
Fame has also made it difficult to keep personal moments private.
Malik recently announced his engagement and said sharing the news with the world has been, "interesting."
As Styles added "Really don't have much choice," not to share the news.
"This Is Us" is a 3D look at the group's rise to fame and a look at life through their eyes.
"I think the main thing we wanted to show is how genuine our friendship is, you know, between us five. And you know, how well we get on. And how much we pull each other through it," said Malik.
"We're just normal guys," added Payne.
The movie will be released in the United States on August 30th. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
