- Story Text: Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone are teaming up for the first time in leading roles in the new action film "Escape Plan."
The duo hit the red carpet in New York on Tuesday (October 15) to promote the flick, which Stallone said was a long time coming.
"It's hard to believe that we've known each other this long and that we finally get to do it. But what makes it worthwhile is kind of the environment. I was saying earlier that the prison, which is called the tomb - that's really the star, and it's just us, who the audience knows, trying to get out of it. So I think it makes for an interesting premise. It's not like, 'oh, look at us we're bigger than the movie.' We're just two rats caught in a maze and how we need each even though we hate each other," Stallone told Reuters.
Stallone plays a structural engineer who constructs prisons and tests their security by being locked inside. During his latest assignment he is framed andup having to hatch a plan with his cellmate, portrayed by Schwarzenegger, in order to escape.
Schwarzenegger said working with Sly was a major motivation in taking the role.
"It was a great action piece and it also had really good scenes in it that gave me the ability to act and to do things that I have never done before in a dramatic way. And I thought it would be a very entertaining movie and that the fans would really enjoy this movie," he said.
This is Schwarzenegger's fourth role since leaving his post as governor of California and said no matter what he does it's about enjoying himself.
"I have a good time no matter what I do. So I had a great time competing in bodybuilding. I had a great time, you know, being governor of California. I had a terrific time doing the movies, doing my charitable work, all of those things. I mean to me, life is all about doing the things that you really enjoy doing and things that you're passionate about. And acting and doing movies is something that I'm very passionate about," he told Reuters.
Added into the script at the last minute was a fight scene between the two stars. On the red carpet Sly talked about the competition.
"He's hard to get off the ground, you know, he's a big boy. He's very strong, you know, the guy is seven times Mr. Olympia. But don't underestimate Rambo, you know what I mean," he said with a smile.
Rapper Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson joins the pair in the film not as an actor, but a producer of the movie.
"I just wanted to be a part of the project because of the talent involved. You know, I only want to associate myself with projects that have the kind of artistic integrity that last. That later on people view them over and over," said Jackson.
Although the film is being promoted to men as a gritty action film, actress Amy Ryan says it has moments females will enjoy as well.
"It's just a good ride. I closed my eyes a couple of times at some of the fight scenes, but there is really good humor and there is actually characters in this film. But I think there are some women out there who will enjoy a good rowdy action movie and those women should come see it," said Ryan.
