- Story Text: Actors Colin Farrell and Jessica Brown Findlay were at the London premiere of their new film, "A New York Winter's Tale" on Thursday (February 13).
It opens in U.S. today (February 14), in time for Valentine's Day, is based on Mark Helprin's 1983 fantasy novel of the same name.
In the film, Farrell ('In Bruges") plays a burglar who falls in love with an heiress who is dying from consumption, played by Brown Findlay (TV series "Downton Abbey").
"I read it and I just, it is such a sweet and such a sentimental story, it wears its heart on its sleeve without apology. I'd never been part of something that was just so that was that significantly romantic," said Farrell.
Set in the early 1900s in a mythical New York with cobble-stone streets, stately mansions and thieving street gangs and also in the present, "A New York Winter's Tale" is a romance that transcends time with magical elements such as a flying white horse and a hero who exists for 100 years without ageing.
"It's just such a beautiful story and the script was so wonderfully written and I just fell in love with it the first time I read it, and then I couldn't stop reading it," said Jessica Brown Findlay, who is best known for acting in UK TV series Downton Abbey.
"I loved working with Jessica, I really did. She was a dream to work with. She's such a wonderful actress but even more importantly than that she's just a cool human being" said Farrell.
However the actor added that he did not have a preferred kind of love interest.
"What do I look for in a woman? A pulse, that's a good place to start. I have no particular type, at all really. I don't know, kindness, a sense of humour, all that kind of stuff," he said.
"A New York Winter's Tale" is expected to earn $15 million at U.S. and Canadian theatres over the weekend, according to Boxoffice.com. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
