- Story Text: Two of Hollywood's most popular comic actors - Robin Williams and Billy Crystal - attended the premiere of their new movie "Father's Day" on Tuesday (May 6).
Directed by comedy veteran Ivan Reitman, the film focuses on two men who are both led to believe they are the father of one particular boy.
When 16-year-old Scott - played by Charlie Hofheimer - runs away, his mother enlists her two ex-lovers (Williams and Crystal) to help find him. She tells both men that he is the father of her missing child.
Unbeknown to her, the men meet during their search and discover they're looking for the same person. Chaos ensues when they find the boy, who is being chased by two vicious drug dealers.
Also in the cast are Natassia Kinski and Julia Louis Dreyfuss from the hit television comedy "Seinfeld." "Father's Day" is based on the French farce "Les Comperes," a film that both Williams and Crystal were fans of.
At Tuesday's premiere, Williams entertained photographers and reporters with his humourous quips.
Crystal said the movie provided a great chance for the two of them to work together. "We've been looking for a long time and it seemed like it was either this, or if we waited too long, It'd be "Grumpy Old Men". So this was the thing for us to do." Hofheimer, who plays Scott, said one of the biggest challenges faced by the cast of the film was keeping a straight face during filming. "Every day you could probably have twenty minutes of wasted time of just everybody laughing, because they had everybody in a mood ready to explode," he said.
Reitman campared Williams and Crystal comedy duo to Abbott and Costello. "Their comedy styles compliment each other so well.
They're also good friends," he said.
"They're like two great Jazz musicians working together", he added.
Until now Williams and Crystal have been limited to joint television appearances. They have worked jointly on "Comic Relief" charity specials for the Home Box Office cable television network. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
