- Story Text: New British horror movie "The Quiet Ones" had its world premiere in London on Tuesday (April 1) with its stars Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games) and Jared Harris (Mad Men) in attendance.
The movie, made by the horror specialist production company Hammer Films, tells the story of Professor Coupland, played by Harris, who decides to test the theory that paranormal activity is caused by human negative energy by attempting to create his own poltergeist.
He enlists his best students at Oxford to help him and Brian McNeil (played by Claflin) to document it all on film camera.
They use Jane Harper (Olivia Cooke) to test their theory and push her to the bounds of sanity in the process. However, their experiment has some unintended and terrifying consequences.
Despite the heavy subject matter, Claflin, best known for his role as Finnick Odair in "The Hunger Games," said the cast had plenty of laughs on set.
"A lot of the time we were very aware of each other's scared faces and you know trying not to laugh at someone pulling a scared face all day every day it proved quite difficult at times," he said.
During shooting, back in summer 2012, Claflin took a call from his agents as the movie was about to wrap telling him he had won the biggest role of his career in The Hunger Games.
"I went silent after my agents told me and everyone was like 'Oh God it's bad news' but I was just like so shocked and such surprise, yes it was a good day," he said.
At the centre of the film is the deeply disturbed Jane Harper, played by British newcomer Olivia Cooke in her first movie role.
"I was eighteen, I was really confident I think I just kind of threw myself into it. I didn't really prepare, it was quite disturbing how easy I tapped into that character," she said.
Set in 1974, the film is made by the creative team behind the 2012 hit "The Woman In Black" and is inspired by a true story that happened in Canada in which an experiment was conducted to create a poltergeist.
