- Story Text: Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt end their 24 hour "Edge of Tomorrow" media blitz in Manhattan on Wednesday (May 28) night.
The duo landed in New York around 8:00pm eastern standard time after beginning their journey in London with an early morning premiere and a quick lunchtime carpet walk in Paris.
While the idea of three cities and two continents in 24 hours seem daunting to some, Cruise was ready for the ride.
"I said 'let's do it.' I thought it was fun. You know, the whole theme of the film and something I've never done before and I thought it was really unique. And here we are right now, it's kind of amazing. All that preparation and now here we are," he said on the carpet.
Blunt, his co-star in the new action film, assumed the plan was Cruise's brainchild.
"I thought 'Oh, this is definitely Tom's idea.' That's what I thought. But it's fun, it's been actually a pretty cool ride," she said with a smile.
"We're on the last leg I can't believe we've made it, we're here, it's crazy," she added.
Upon arriving to the premiere Cruise spent nearly 30 minutes greeting fans.
"It's fun. You know, they love movies and they are here and - you know I'm a film fan first. So it's just cool that they come out here and it's nice, I really enjoy it."
"Edge of Tomorrow" features Cruise as Major William Cage who has been forced into a war against aliens who have invaded the Earth.
After dying within minutes of landing, Cage is thrown into a time loop forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over - which also allows him to learn new skills, with the help of Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski, played by Blunt.
Cruise said his character is far from a hero in the film.
"He's not a talented soldier, he's not a soldier really. He hasn't trained for combat and he's very human and he's terrified and a coward and doesn't feel that he is the one that can or should take on what occurs."
Blunt, best known for her role in "The Devil Wears Prada," is making her action hero debut.
"I think the part really, the character was such an incredible action heroine. And you don't come across that in movies that often. And Doug was a huge draw, you know, I love his movies, he's just an extraordinary director."
But for Cruise, action and doing his own stunts comes very natural and said he doesn't see himself giving that part of acting up anytime soon.
"Haven't hit that yet. Just getting ready to do 'Mission Two,' 'Mission Five.' The next 'Mission' - how many hours I've been up? Yeah, I'm rested," he said while laughing.
