- Story Text: Star Channing Tatum hit the red carpet for comedy movie "22 Jump Street" in New York on Wednesday (June 4), while his co-star Jonah Hill couldn't join him because he had to make an appearance on U.S. television program "The Colbert Report."
Hill was outside taking photos and waving to fans and told a colleague he had to "go to Colbert right now" before rushing away.
On Tuesday (June 3), Hill apologized for using a homophobic slur against a paparazzi photographer. Hill was caught on video snapping at a cameraman who was badgering him. The actor appeared on Howard Stern's radio show and told late night talk show host Jimmy Fallon that he was sorry and that there was no excuse for his language.
"Look it's unfortunate," said Tatum on the carpet. "I think it's awkward for him obviously because I think people can tell that he didn't mean that. It was just a thing in a hateful moment when someone was being hateful to him and he said probably the most hateful thing that he could think of and not even thinking, it was unfortunate."
"22 Jump Street" is the sequel to "21 Jump Street," the 2012 blockbuster that made more than $200 million at the worldwide box office.
In the sequel, Hill and Tatum move on from high school to college as undercover agents and take on fraternity parties, football and jumping on semi-trailer trucks at 90 miles per hour.
"We used to do dumb things, not riding on a semi at 90 miles per hour, but other very dumb things and we didn't have any safety guides around us growing up, it was just more, who could do the more dumb thing," said Tatum. "There are 'Animal House'-esque things or scenes or insinuations, but it's one of those things that you have movies that you love and you try to throw it a wink or a nod to them. That's what I love about the film is that it works on three different levels, it has a meta level, for anyone that loves film and anyone that loves movies in general, and then you have just like a witty, hilarious thing when things are funny, they're funny, and then you have a kick you in the balls type of humor that kids can even understand."
The film releases in U.S. theaters on June 13. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
