- Story Text: The stars of "Transformers: Age of Extinction" hit New York on Wednesday (June 25) to celebrate the film's release.
The movie, the fourth based on the Transformers franchise, is expected to become one of the highest-grossing movies of 2014, with the three prior films generating $2.7 billion in ticket sales at global box offices. And the film's star Mark Wahlberg said the fourth movie is also capable of big box office returns.
"I think as long as we do our job and we deliver a great movie then that will take care of itself, and you know, I think we definitely have a great chance at that."
Wahlberg takes over where Shia LaBeouf, who was the lead in the original trilogy, left off in the summer blockbuster. Wahlberg plays a mechanic in the movie, who inadvertently discovers that a truck he is working on is a Transformer and is soon drawn into the battle between the benevolent Autobots and the dastardly Decepticons.
The actor said being the lead in a film this size was a welcomed challenge.
"You don't think about the pressure or you know, the last films. You know you're in good hands with Michael. I loved working with him, I knew I would be in a really cool situation creativity to kind of come up with my own version of the character. And that's exactly what we did," Wahlberg told Reuters.
Filming took place in Hong Kong and three mainland cities including scenes at the Great Wall. Chinese actress Li Bingbing was cast in the film, and four smaller parts were filled by actors chosen from a Chinese TV reality show.
On the carpet Li said working with Bay on her fight scene pushed her as an actress.
"It was a fight scene I had to be trained for more than 10 days. But Michael, always Michael. He changed our choreographing on set in one second. So you have to be - be challenged every minute. But I love to work with him."
Kelsey Grammer, best known for his role as Frasier, plays a paranoid CIA agent, trying to rid the world of the bad Transformers and took joy in being the nemesis of the film: "It was a lot of fun. I'm a good bad guy, I mean I get it."
Newcomers Nicola Peltz, who plays Wahlberg's teenage daughter, and her on-screen boyfriend, Jack Reynor, said they couldn't believe to be a part of such a huge franchise.
"I'm so excited to be in this film and just to promote it is very exciting for me and I feel very lucky to be here tonight," said Peltz.
The night doubled as a family affair for both Wahlberg and co-star Titus Welliver who walked the carpet with their children and wives.
"It's the first time that the kids have ever been interested in a movie that I'm doing. So I'm excited to share it with them," said Wahlberg.
"For me it's wonderful. I do a lot of films that they haven't been able to see because they are R rated. But this is really - I mean, these films are family films," Welliver said.
The film began its international rollout on June 25th and will be released in the U.S. on June 27th. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
