- Story Text: Stars Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel smiled and joked on the red carpet in Los Angeles Thursday night (July 10) prior to the premiere of their new comedy, "Sex Tape."
In the film, directed by Jake Kasdan, the Diaz and Segel - who showed great on screen chemistry in the 2011 box office hit, "Bad Teacher" - play a married couple still very much in love, but ten years and two kids have cooled the passion. To get it back, they decide - why not? - to make a video of themselves trying out every position in "The Joy of Sex" in one marathon three-hour session. It seems like a great idea, until they discover that their most private video has gone public. In a panic, they begin a wild night of adventure - tracking down leads, roping in friends, duping Annie's boss - all to reclaim their video, their reputation, their sanity, and, most importantly, their marriage.
And in the film, both stars had to "take it off."
"I knew we were going to have a great time," said Diaz, in dismissing any pressure she felt about going nude in front of her co-star. "I laughed so hard and the hardest thing to do was not to laugh and to get through any giving take. But, I don't know if anything surprised me."
The 41-year-old actress added that this was a project that had you checking your vanity at the door.
"The the thing we do is that there is very little room for vanity," said Diaz. "This is not a vanity project, this is a movie where two people really love each other and they are willing to go all out to show how much they love each other, it was about them. If Jason and I were thinking about our vanity, we would not have been serving the comedy we were trying to achieve."
Actor Rob Lowe, who was involved in his very own sex tape controversy in the 1980's, also stars in the film.
"My thing is that comedy should be bold and comedy should make people go, 'Whoa, I can't believe they did that or went there!'" said Lowe. "That is what it is for me to be part of a movie like this."
