- Story Text: French film director Luc Besson attended the Taiwan premiere of his hit movie 'Lucy' on Monday (August 18).
Besson walked on stage with his wife and producer Virginie Silla at the Vieshow Imax Cinemas in the Taiwanese capital Taipei.
He thanked fans who gave him support during the filming of parts of 'Lucy' last year in Taipei.
"So many people sent me a note and a letter through the hotel before we left. And I answered to a couple but not all of them so I apologise, but I just want to take this opportunity to thank them," he said.
Besson also complimented three Taiwanese actors involved in the film -- Mason Lee, Hsing Feng and Ken Lin -- on their work in spite of language barriers.
"A big pleasure and very professional and I'm not speaking their language. They are not speaking English, but they understand everything I want. I don't know how they do that, but they were very good, thank you to you," he said.
The film opens in Taiwanese cinemas on Friday (August 22), after topping the North American box office on its opening weekend at the end of July.
It collected $45 million in the US that weekend, film production company Europacorp said, outmuscling 'Hercules', which lagged far behind in second place.
The special effects-laden film stars Scarlett Johansson as a woman who can stop traffic and move objects with her mind after a drug planted in her body causes her brain to operate at abnormally high levels. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
