- Story Text: Chinese premier tours pyramids on the sidelines of a cooperation agreement between China and the Arab states.
China and Arab countries on Friday (January 30, 2004) set
up a China-Arab states cooperation forum, announced by
Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing and Secretary-General
of the Arab League Amr Moussa, at the Arab League
headquarters in Cairo.
Chinese President Hu Jintao, who is currently on a
state visit to Egypt, held a meeting with Moussa and Arab
state representatives exchanging views on ways of
strengthening and developing China-Arab relations under new
circumstances.
"We also decided our policy according to United Nations
and the five principal of peaceful coexistence," Li said at
a press conference on Friday.
Li pointed out that the establishment of the forum is
the result of joint efforts by China and Arab states and
marks a milestone in the history of friendly and
cooperative relations between the countries.
"We will start announcement for Chinese-Egyptian
assembly to take action today in economic, cultural,
growing and international policies," Moussa added.
The main principles behind the forum are to promote
political relations on the basis of mutual respect, to
forge closer trade and economic links so as to achieve
common development, to expand cultural exchanges through
drawing upon each other's experience, and to strengthen
cooperation in international affairs with the aim of
safeguarding world peace and promoting common development.
Later on Friday Hu took some time out from meetings to
embark on a tour of the ancient Egyptian pyramids on the
outskirts of the capital. Hu spent the afternoon climbing
the giant structures as his entourage eagerly took
photographs of the ancient sites.
