- Story Text: The third conference held by the Popular Font for the Liberation of Palestine ended this week in Lebanon.
Afterwards, the Secretary-General, Dr. George Habash, appeared at a news conference to outline the present policy of the movement.
Among new facts to emerge was a renunciation of airline hi jacking by the Front. Dr. Habash said his organisation had adopted a "no hi-jacking" policy two years ago, because hijackings were misunderstood, even by friends of the Palestine Revolution.
Dr. Habash also had a warning for those who run in the forthcoming municipal elections in the Israel-occupied West Bank of the Jordan. he said that in the eyes of the Front such people would be regarded as collaborators.
SYNOPSIS: Near the Lebanese capital, Beirut--the site of the third conference of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. the conference ended earlier this month--and on Tuesday newsmen were invited to hear a statement from he organisation's Secretary-General, Dr. George Habash.
Dr. Habash told the newsmen that the Popular Front new renounces aircraft hijacking. He said the Front adopted a "no-hijacking" policy two years ago after it found that such actions were misunderstood, even by friends of the Palestine revolution. Dr. Habash said the Front played no part in last month's hijacking of a West German jumbo jet to Aden.
Dr. Habash had a warning for those who run in the forthcoming municipal election in the Israeli-occupied West Bank of the Jordan River. These people, he said, would be regarded by the Popular Front as collaborators. And, he added, they'd be subject to what usually applies to collaborators.
Dr. Habash concluded by saying that the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine believes that the strategy of the long-term popular war of liberation is the only solution to the middle East problem--and, he says, it rejects all plans for a Palestinian state.
