- Story Text: Yanfeng Ge, a brother of Chaofeng Ge, who died in an ICE (Immigration Customs Enforcement) Moshannon Valley Processing Center in August, sued the U.S. government on Wednesday (November 12), saying it illegally ignored his request for records about his brother's death.
"I still find it hard to believe he would take his own life," Yanfeng Ge said in Mandarin with the help of an English translator.
Chaofeng Ge, a 32-year-old Chinese citizen and New York City resident, was found hanging by his neck in a shower stall. His family's lawyer, David Rankin, said Ge's hands and legs were tied behind his back.
Yanfeng Ge said his brother was isolated and under distress while incarcerated. His condition worsened because no one at the facility spoke Mandarin.
"It filled me with great sadness to think of his final moments alone, scared, and in pain," Yanfeng Ge said. "These sorts of things should not happen to people who are in the government's custody."
