- Story Text: British singer Amy Winehouse performed in Rio de Janeiro on Monday (January 10) night as she continued her comeback tour in Brazil.
The 27-year-old held her second concert after managing to pull a well-received performance in the southern city of Florianopolis on Saturday (January 8).
Hundreds of fans lined up outside Rio's HSBC Arena a couple of hours before the concert, hoping to get a good spot and watch the singer from up close.
Some had high expectations, but others only hoped for Winehouse not to deliver a drunken performance.
"I came to see the crazy lady. The crazy lady is in Brazil, is in Rio de Janeiro. Let's see, if she doesn't fall off the stage, gets drunk and falls off," said fan Marcelo Ferreira.
"I hope it will be very good, (I hope) we enjoy it, have fun and I hope she will deliver a great concert," said fan Isabela Soares.
Winehouse opened the concert with two hits from her breakthrough album "Back to Black".
Wearing a low-cut dress with tiger print, the troubled singer smiled and cheered the crowd during the first songs.
Brazilian media had raised concerns that Winehouse, who has a history of drugs and alcohol issues, would not show up for her concerts.
The concerts mark her first proper live shows since 2008, when the beleaguered singer dropped out of several high-profile concerts sceduled in Brazil including the 2009 Coachella festival.
Her musical career has been overshadowed by a torrid personal life, which has made her a tabloid favourite, featuring regular brushes with the law.
Winehouse will also perform a second concert in Rio, one in Sao Paulo and another in Recife throughout the week. Media reports said she would get paid over $1.5 million dollars per concert. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
