- Story Text: Heavy rains lashed India's southeastern Tamil Nadu state on Saturday (November 29) with authorities deploying rescue teams to coastal regions, as Cyclone Ditwah approaches after tearing through Sri Lanka.
The cyclone is likely to reach the Bay of Bengal by Sunday (November 30), according to India Meteorological Department.
At least 153 people have been killed in Sri Lanka after landslides and flooding caused by Cyclone Ditwah, officials said on Saturday, with 191 others missing and more than half a million affected nationwide.
India delivered 6.5 metric tons of food aid to assist in relief efforts, the Indian High Commission in Colombo said as Cyclone Ditwah moved across Sri Lanka towards southern India.
