- Story Text: Mexico’s security minister Omar Garcia Harfuch said on Wednesday (November 19) that authorities arrested a man accused of orchestrating the killing of Uruapan Mayor Carlos Manzo earlier this month.
Harfuch told reporters the suspect, identified as Jorge Armando “N”, was one of the intellectual authors and a leader of the criminal cell behind the attack. The group is linked to a faction operating in Michoacan aligned with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), he added.
Manzo was fatally shot on Nov. 1 during a public event in Uruapan, a city at the center of violent turf battles between organized crime groups. His killing sparked nationwide protests over insecurity.
Authorities said the arrest followed weeks of intelligence work and coordination among federal and state agencies. Investigations are ongoing, and more detentions are expected.
