- Story Text: Chilean authorities recovered on Wednesday (November 19) the bodies of five tourists killed in a snowstorm at Torres del Paine National Park.
The victims — two Germans, two Mexicans, and one British national — became lost near the park's Los Perros camp during a powerful blizzard that brought whiteout conditions and wind speeds exceeding 193 kilometers per hour, equivalent to a Category 3 hurricane.
Chilean Air Force helicopters airlifted the bodies from the remote location. The remains were transported to the Legal Medical Service headquarters in Puerto Natales for identification.
Rescue teams also evacuated stranded tourists from Dickson Camp as conditions remained hazardous.
Torres del Paine National Park, known for its dramatic mountain peaks and subpolar forests, spans approximately 1,810 square kilometres and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.
