- Story Text: A bomb ripped through the editorial offices of Turkey's leading pro-Kurdish daily newspaper in Istanbul on Saturday (December 3), killing at least one man and wounding 19.
The four-storey building housing the central offices of Ozger Ulke daily, in the Kumkapi district, was almost completely destroyed by the pre-dawn blast.
No one claimed responsibility for the bombing, police said.
Ozgur Ulke has close ties to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), which has been fighting for an independent state for Turkish Kurds for the past decade.
The government has cracked down on writers and journalists it perceives as sympathetic to the PKK cause.
Another blast destroyed the newspaper's smaller Ankara office, which was deserted at the time. There were no reports of casualties but the blast damaged other flats in the building and blew out windows nearby.
Ozgur Ulke staff said the Ankara blast was caused by a bomb, which was timed to go off at the same time as the Istanbul blast, around 3:30 a.m. (0130 GMT).
But Ankara police said they could not be certain it was the result of a bomb.
No one has claimed responsibility for the Ankara attack, police said.
