- Story Text: At least 12 postal workers were injured when a package exploded in a Frankfurt post office on Wednesday (May 3).
"At 7.50 a.m. (0550 GMT) there was an explosion in the post office sorting room apparently caused by a parcel placed on a conveyor belt," a police spokesman told reporters at the scene.
The spokesman said 12 people were hurt. Two were seriously injured -- a 43-year-old man suffered burns and facial injuries and a woman, 35, was injuried in the stomach region.
Rescue helicopters were immediately sent to take victims to hospital. Eight people were being treated for shock, two others had minor injuries.
Police said there was no clear indication yet what had caused the blast. Fire investigators were trying to recover the remains of the package to establish the cause.
Fire press spokesman for Frankfurt, Guenther Schneider, said the package was destined for Frankfurt but he did not have any more details.
