- Story Text: Israeli police said on Tuesday (November 7) the device caused only light damage at the entrance to the offices, and that the blast had injured the woman's hearing.
They refused to speculate if the explosion had been politically motivated or a simple criminal act.
Israel has been on high security alert since Sunday when security sources said there was information a guerrilla squad was in Israel to avenge the October 26, 1995, assassination in Malta of Islamic Jihad leader Fathi Shqaqi. His killers were not captured.
Palestinians blamed Israel.
The alert has focused on areas frequented by Israelis. The Jewish state fears another suicide attack like a series of four over nine days in February and March that killed 59 people in Israel.
Those attacks were claimed by the Hamas movement, which along with Islamic Jihad, has led violent opposition to interim peace deals between the Palestine Liberation Organisation and Israel by attacking the Jewish state.
Palestinians use the Interior Ministry in East Jerusalem to obtain documents required by Israeli authorities. Israel captured Arab East Jerusalem in the 1967 Middle East war and soon after annexed it, a move not recognised by the international community.
