- Story Text: King Hussein of Jordan attended the 11th officer graduation ceremony at the Royal Military Academy on Wednesday (4 October).
In an address to the graduating cadets, King Hussein spoke of the Israeli occupation of the Arab sector of Jerusalem. He said: "We will never relinquish any of our sacred rights to this. I say this for the whole world to hear." And, he added, "The people of Jordan have pledged to continue to achieve the aspired aim no matter how long the road is and irrespective of sacrifices."
The new officers have just completed a two-year course in which regular military subjects are supplemented by instruction in languages, science and general culture.
Jordan has total military strength of more than 60,000 - with the great majority of 58,000 belonging to the Army. The Air Force makes up another 2,000, and the Navy nearly 300.
