- Story Text: A high-ranking Greek Navy officer and his probable assailant were killed in a powerful blast near Athens on Thursday (April 20).
Police said the explosives were the same kind as those used by guerrilla groups in the past.
Police said the unidentified man had probably arrived at the house of Lieutenant Commander Spyros Benetatos with the explosives, which went off when the door was opened.
Many embassies are located in the suburb where the explosion took place.
Urban guerrillas have staged bomb and rocket attacks against Greek and foreign targets in Athens since the 1970s.
