- Story Text: Police officers guarding presidential compound
refuse offer to join Ukraine's opposition.
Some senior officers from Kiev's police force who in
recent days joined the ranks of the opposition appealed to
their comrades on Saturday (November 27) to also switch
sides.
A group of police officers with the ranks of Lieutenant
and Major turned up at the offices of the president in the
Ukrainian capital. At the offices of the president, they
called on their colleagues guarding the buildings from
supporters of opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko to join
the "people".
The police units guarding the presidential compound
refused to accept the offer, saying they were duty bound to
protect the buildings and serve the constitution of
Ukraine.
On the sixth consecutive day of street protests against
a disputed presidential poll, tens of thousands of
protesters continued to blockade government buildings.
