- Story Text: Arab students occupied the Arab League office in Paris on Thursday (3 June) in protest at the Syrian armed forces intervention in the Lebanon.
A spokesman for the Arab Student Movement in Paris, speaking in Arabic declared the Syrian action was an attack on the Palestine revolutionary movement and the Lebanese national movement.
As some Arab students hid their faces from the news cameras, their un-named spokesman said that the students joined in similar calls from Arab students elsewhere against the Syrian action. The same day students in Cairo occupied the Syrian Embassy, the Egyptian President, Anwar Sadat, attacked Damascus in strong terms for its latest actions. President Sadat has called for a meeting of Arab foreign minister to discuss the crisis.
The take-over of the Paris Arab League office was peaceful. The students brought with them pasters condemning Zionism and racism -- and Syria. They declared they planned a campaign to mobilise French public opinion against the Syrian intervention.
