- Story Text: U.N. weapons inspectors left a Baghdad hotel for their
office headquarters on Wednesday ahead of their first field
mission in Iraq in four years.
The inspectors headed to their headquarters in the
Iraqi capital. They were expected to set off around 8:30 a.m.
(0530 GMT) to at least one undisclosed site to begin a hunt
for alleged nuclear, biological and chemical weapons.
"I think everybody feels excited and anxious to get going
and very determined to start this systematic inspection,"
Melissa Fleming, spokeswoman for the International Atomic
Energy Agency (IAEA) told reporters as inspectors left their
hotel.
They drove by car to their headquarters at the old Canal
Hotel on the Baghdad outskirts before setting off on their
first inspection tour.
"We are just hopeful that things will go well today. We
are looking forward to a good day of inspection," Fleming
said.
The Vienna-based IAEA has officials of the agency among
the inspectors.
The inspections come under U.N. Security Council
Resolution 1441 which offers Iraq a last chance to disarm or
face serious consequences. The United States has threatened a
war on Iraq if it does not disarm.
