- Story Text: The offices in Paris of the right-wing French newspaper '1'Aurore' were damaged by two explosions early on Monday (17 May) morning. There were no injuries.
The first bomb exploded at 03.05 local time, severely damaging the second floor of the building. Fire engines, ambulances and police raced to the scene and were trying to force an entry as a second explosion wrecked the first floor.
There was no indication who was responsible for the incident. Two years ago a car bomb exploded in front of the same newspaper offices.
Two hours after the l'Aurore explosions, a bomb went off in front of the Palais de Justice in Angouleme, western France. it was more powerful than the earlier ones and was heard 7 1/2 miles away (12 kilometres). The force of the blast wrecked shop windows and a car that was parked nearby. There were no claims of responsibility.
However, a group calling itself the 'Revolutionary Movement for Immediate Action' has admitted placing seven explosive devices under two German cars in Paris on Monday. The vehicles were completely destroyed but nobody was injured. The group said that they were protesting at the recent death of the West German urban guerrilla leader, Ulrike Meinhof.
The West German authorities have claimed that Frau Meinhof hanged herself in her cell earlier this month, but sympathizers have suggested that she was murdered. In the past two week there have been explosions and demonstrations throughout Europe.
