- Story Text: A four-day event featuring the work of Lebanese fashion and interior designers ended on Monday (May 12). Organisers of Beirut Designers Week, now in its second year, say more than 70 traders presented their work, including fashion, jewellery and furniture designs at Beirut's Zaitunay Bay waterfront.
"Beirut Designers Week is an exhibition that became huge, an exhibition that specialised in design that highlights the Lebanese designer in different design fields, not only fashion but also homeware, accessories and others. This exhibition has gained its place to become the official platform that launches young Lebanese designers and directs them towards the fashion world,'' said Sandra Ghattas, founder of Gata events which organises the event.
Lebanese designers say the exhibition helps them showcase their work and gain a reputation especially amongst new customers.
"I launch a new collection every year at Beirut designers week since they started doing it. I have been working for eight years, I participated last year with them and that was very successful, though the situation was not very good, but the exhibition was successful and 40,000 people came, and they liked my stand," the owner of Sara Hudgens Beach Wear, Rania Kettaneh, said.
Carpet and scarves designer, Nivine Maktabi, said that taking part in the event meant she met customers from abroad, as well as local buyers.
"Participating in exhibitions is always useful, especially being a Lebanese designer. This is the second year I took part in this exhibition and you always meet new people. Sometimes, most of the people that come here are living abroad, so we meet new customers, new families looking for light carpets that they can put in their luggage and travel with, even affordable luxury, you have all price ranges," she said.
Organisers said that thousands of people were expected to visit the stalls at Beirut's waterfront promenade over the four days. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
