- Story Text: Pret-a-porter week continues unfolding in Paris to the
delight of the fashion-crazed and it was Thierry Mugler's
chance to woo the crowds.
Instead of delighting crowd Thierry Mugler, left them
perplexed in Paris. The French designer's feline theme, with
whiskers painted on the models' cheeks, fuzzy ears perched in
their hairdos, and threatening claws glued to their toes,
appeared to be a ploy to distract attention from the clothes.
In all the soft wool trousers, floppy jackets and shawls,
and reversible dresses, there was none of Mugler's meticulous
tailoring and razor sharp architectural forms.
Mugler tried to raise the temperature with models stripped
down to bras and panties and turned their mohair pareo skirts
or bouclette dresses inside out to put the silver lame lining
on the outside.
The shoulders of a hairy blue coat were unsnapped and
rolled down so that the sleeves and bodice were transformed
into the skirts of a tutu.
But there was nothing luxurious or stylish about any
of it, and instead of Mugler's sharp, clean colours, the
palette was messy and unfocused, beige, pea green,
chocolate, brownish rose, pale blue and lots of grey.
