- Story Text: A new aircraft, specially designed to open up rough stretches of territory, has been making its debut in England. It's called the Land Development Aircraft and it has been made to a demanding specification by former test pilot David Lockspeiser.
Safety and toughness are combined in an aircraft that is able to operate from the roughest landing strips in the toughest conditions. A single removable container housed in the fuselage facilitates cargo shipments and the cost has been pegged to GBP10,000 sterling. Visnews cameraman Tony Green has been filming this strange new aircraft, which owes its unique design to having the main wings set at the rear of the fuselage area and a rear-mounted engine.
SYNOPSIS: A strange new silhouette takes to the air over Britain. It belongs to the Land Development Aircraft and it has been specially designed to open up rough stretches of territory. Removable cargo containers housed in the fuselage make shipments easier and quicker to turn around.
The rear mounted engine is designed to be less vulnerable to such aerial hazards as plagues of locusts. The new aircraft has been made to the most demanding specification by former test pilot David Lockspeiser. It has been designed to sell at about ten-thousand pounds sterling.
The aircraft owes much of its unusual design to the wings -- a mainplane, set well back on the fuselage, and a fore-plane. These give the new aircraft greater lift. They also provide for low speed flying and for added safety against stalling. The new aircraft has a range of fifteen undercarriage and low pressure tyres enable it to operate from small airstrips in rough hilly country.
