- Story Text: Paris-based designer Paco Rabanne, known for his bizarre look for several decades, has unveiled an extravagant 1998/1999 Autumn-Winter collection in Paris at the Carrousel du Louvre.
The Rabanne show was in complete contrast to Yves St Laurent, who boasted the height of chic with his latest collection.
Paco Rabanne's Autumn-Winter collection ON Wednesday (July 22) was dedicated to night-time with flashbacks to the splendor of imperial Russia and the insouciance of the 1930s tinged with a hint of the techno era.
Rabanne presented long overcoats, tightly belted hunting jackets and short-haired fake fur dolman jackets trimmed with glittering metal and spangled with golden studs.
The splendour of Russia was reflected in rosewood or ruby red fake fur tight-fitting dresses and all-in-one outfits embroidered with glimmering holograms.
Rabanne also presented art-deco dresses; dresses decorated with glittering plastic accessorised with large necklaces and black onyx earings.
Inspired by the techno era, Rabanne showed laser mini-dresses dotted with pearls.
The show ended with the bride wearing a dress with silver metal and phosphorescent needles.
In contrast, the Yves St Laurent show displayed the best of haute couture, with 1940s-style frocks and fur coats.
St Laurent was one more faithful to his classic lines, sporting sober and refined dresses and coats with dark suits.
Skirts stopped between the knee and calf.
For the evening, there were long draped dresses, long skirts, camisoles, delicate lace embroidered with pearls on shirts, and feathered jackets.
