- Story Text: Indian carmaker, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, launched its first manufacturing plant for UK Jaguar Land Rover unit in southern Tamil Nadu state on Monday (February 09).
Last year, a cyberattack on JLR, Tata Motors' luxury unit and Britain's largest carmaker, hit sales and led to a $177.2 million one-time charge.
The attack last year forced JLR to halt production for five weeks up to early October.
"The unit has been built with a production capability for 3 lakh (0.3 million) vehicles and Tata Motors will start to produce high-end vehicles, not only in terms of the Jaguar Land Rover products, but also products with the latest technologies", said Tata Sons Chair, N. Chandrasekaran.
JLR accounts for up to 80% of Tata sons' revenue, with the domestic business forming the remainder. It reported a 43% decline in sales, excluding that of its Chinese joint venture, with normal production levels following the shutdown resuming only around mid-November. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
