- Story Text: India's crude oil import strategy will remain focused on energy security, affordability, and consumer interest, even as scrutiny grows over its purchases of Russian oil, Indian Foreign Ministry Secretary Vikram Misri said on Monday (February 9).
At a media briefing, Misri said India, which depends on imports for about 80-85% of its energy needs, must guard against inflation risks and ensure stable and reliable supplies amid global market volatility.
"We are neither dependent on any single source for this, nor do we intend to be. Our approach is to maintain multiple sources of supply and diversify them as appropriate to ensure stability," Misri said, adding that oil companies take sourcing decisions based on market conditions.
His remarks followed comments by Donald Trump on India's Russian oil purchases, while the Kremlin said India's diversification plans were not new, with Reuters reporting refiners have sought alternative supplies under sanctions pressure. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
